The "Champs Salomon" vineyard is among the furthest south of the vineyards in Marsannay, located just south of "Les Saint Jacques" and "Les Grandes Vignes" and closer to the village of Couchey. Martin Bart's family planted many of the vines in 1956, and these old vines give tremendously concentrated and complex fruit. The lower altitude and full southern exposure of this site means it gets full sun and is more protected from wind and cold. As a result of this prime location and exposure, this is the biggest, fullest and weightiest of these wines.
Domaine Bart Marsannay "Champs Salomon" is a wine with great richness and black cherry, berry, and spice character. It is a grand wine with more weight and body than almost any other Marsannay. With solid tannins and wonderful persistence, it lingers like a great Premier Cru. There's tremendous length and it will age beautifully. Impressive now, it promises to get even fleshier in texture and more harmonious over the next 2-3 years, then it should drink beautifully until it is at least 9-10 years of age.
