This is mammoth-scaled white Burgundy from very old chardonnay vines planted between 1947 and 1969. This parcel is adjacent to the Barraud's house and enjoys a full southern sun exposure. The soils are alternating veins of limestone scree and marly-limestone clay. It was aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels, about 20% new.
This has a pale yellow color and expressive aromas that bring to mind blossoms, pears, peach cobbler, lemon zest, and subtle oak toast. The palate has great richness and concentration, with intense pit fruit and lemon citrus flavors wrapped in chalky minerals. The texture is almost chewy. Generous and rich enough to enjoy now, it will also improve.
