Localisation: Brouilly, Beaujolais, France
Tasting Notes: This punchy Côte de Brouilly is one of the more powerful wines in Pierre’s lineup. Medium-bodied and fresh, the wine is loaded with flavors of red and dark fruits, damp earth, and granite.
Fruit for 'Brouilly' comes from organically farmed 65-year old vines rooted in pink granite, aged eight months in used oak. The final wine is refreshing and red-fruited, noted with flavors of wet stones and earth.
Food Pairing: Perfect with pizza, pasta, roasted veggie or roast chicken!
The Domain: Located just next to the winery in Odenas, Cotton’s parcel of Côte de Brouilly is on a unique terroir of “corne verte” that Pierre says is found nowhere else in the Beaujolais. Corne Verte is a blend of pink granite and diorite. The Côte de Brouilly 100% Cotton was the first cuvée Pierre made, and remains the emblematic wine of the domaine - a structured powerful gamay that magically retains the easy drinking bonhomie of the best wines of the Beaujolais."
100% Gamay from the Bonneges vineyard, planted in the 1950s on "Corne Verte," a blend of yellow and pink granite, clay, and diorite soils. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented carbonically using wild yeasts. Aged in wooden foudre and barrels for 8 months. Unfined, unfiltered with no added SO2.
