Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 96 Points- The Conterno Fantino 2016 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda (with 6,500 bottles produced) draws its fruit from a 1.2-hectare site in Monforte d'Alba with silty soils mixed with sand and clay. It opens to bright cherry and dried raspberry that set the tone for the abundant primary fruit that defines the bouquet. Those red berry flavors cede to cola, spice, mint and rosemary essence. There is an almost exotic quality here spurred forward by pressed blue flower and church incense. However, the big takeaway here is the sheer energy and resonance of this classic Barolo.

This 100% Nebbiolo comes from a single, historical vineyard called "Pressenda" located in the cru Castelletto on the Eastern Slopes of Monforte d'Alba. Pressenda is a spectacular vineyard at 350m (1148 feet) above sea level with southeastern exposure and is considered the qualitative heart of the Castelletto cru. It was planted in 1969 and 1986, but there are also more recent plantings. The vineyard is characterized by a clayey, sandy light colored silty soil, which gives the wine wonderful aromas and tannins as well as great structure, elegance and longevity.
