What is it? 2018 Chappellet "Mountain Cuvée” is a blend of the five main Bordeaux varieties, leading with 44% cabernet sauvignon and 33% merlot. Grown in excellent Napa County vineyards including Chappellet’s own famed site on Pritchard Hill above Lake Hennessey, this is bold, ripe, opulent Napa red. Made to drink young, it’s great now and over the next 5-7 years. ABV is 14.5%.

What does it taste like? Dark, rich, complex and spicy, this elegant Napa cabernet-based proprietor’s blend shows rich aromas of blackberries and currants along with spicy notes and hints of vanilla from barrel aging. The palate is loaded with red and black berry fruit, spicy plums, cocoa and vanilla. The full-bodied flavors lead to a long and creamy-textured finish of vivid fruit and sweet spice. Already lush and easy to drink, the fine tannins assure it can age nicely.

Is it right for you? With Napa Cabs from Pritchard Hill wineries like Colgin, Brand, Ovid and Chappellet selling for $200-$600 per bottle and desiring decades of cellaring, this is Chappellet’s answer made for nearer-term, not-quite-as-lavish occasions. It’s perfect for those that love the intense, vibrant flavors of mountain fruit wines from Napa, but don’t want to spend a fortune or wait for years. This offers exceptional value.

Is it ready to drink? Impressive and intensely flavorful today, this delicious red is ready to drink with a robust stew, a sizzling steak, or even all by itself. Just give it 30 minutes in a decanter to unwind and enjoy. You can also cellar it for 5-7 years or maybe longer, so get plenty!
