What is it? 2018 Chappellet "Mountain Cuvée” is a blend of the five main Bordeaux varieties, leading with 44% cabernet sauvignon and 33% merlot. Grown in excellent Napa County vineyards including Chappellet’s own famed site on Pritchard Hill above Lake Hennessey, this is bold, ripe, opulent Napa red. Made to drink young, it’s great now and over the next 5-7 years. ABV is 14.5%.
What does it taste like? Dark, rich, complex and spicy, this elegant Napa cabernet-based proprietor’s blend shows rich aromas of blackberries and currants along with spicy notes and hints of vanilla from barrel aging. The palate is loaded with red and black berry fruit, spicy plums, cocoa and vanilla. The full-bodied flavors lead to a long and creamy-textured finish of vivid fruit and sweet spice. Already lush and easy to drink, the fine tannins assure it can age nicely.
