Grape(s): 74% Pinot Noir, 26% Chardonnay
Localization: Avenay-Val-D'Or, Champagne, France
Tasting Notes: Showing notes like ripe citrus, earthy red berry fruit, with a classic toasty-yeasty mid-palate. A very long finish that hints at exotic spice. Exceptional, rich, satisfying, and fascinating.
Notes: 2012 was an excellent year for Champagne, although not without curveballs around harvest! Quality is excellent, and the 2012 Pierre Morlet is no exception!
The Domain: The Morlet family has been cultivating vineyards in Avenay-Val-d'Or since the early 1800s and, after four generations, Champagne Pierre Morlet et Fils has become synonymous in France for authentic and handcrafted Champagnes. Interestingly, Pierre Morlet's grandson Nicolas is currently a consulting winemaker at Napa Valley's cultish Peter Michael Winery.
