The 2017 Bodegas Enrique Mendoza Monastrell "La Tremenda" is a deep, full-bodied, textured red wine. It is estate-grown in the low-yielding "La Tremenda" vineyard at about 2,000 feet of elevation in the Alicante DO growing area. 100% monastrell (also called mourvedre), it was hand-harvested and grown organically.
This deep, dark ruby-purple colored wine has beautiful aromas of red and black berries, licorice, herbs, and minerals. It is powerful but balanced with ripe fruit, herb and mineral complexity, suave texture, and a palate-coating finish of surprising length and freshness. It was barrel-aged for 6 months to enhance its complexity and texture.
