Tasting Notes: The Pinot Noir Dierke is laced with dark red cherry fruit, dried flowers, spice, sweet pipe tobacco, and cedar. Linear and very tightly wound, the 2021 will need at least a few years in bottle to blossom. It’s pretty impressive though, even in the early going.

Notes: Dierke’s organically certified hillside vineyard is nestled just off Bodega Highway within a diverse habitat of fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and beneficial plants. Notoriously exuberant and powerful, like the grower himself, the Dierke vineyard teems with life every season. The 2021 was another Dierke vintage with impeccable farming and exceptional grower execution. The pristine fruit quality present at harvest allowed for a seamless reception in the cellar with only minimal sorting necessary. We chose to age the bold 2021 Dierke Pinot Noir for 17 months in both barrel and puncheon, and an additional year of bottle age prior to release has only further elevated the potential of this distinguished site.

The Domain: Eric Sussman first heard the expression radio coteau from a friend while living and working in Burgundy. More than a preference for how you discover these wines, the name reflects a commitment to capturing reflections of soil, seasons, people and place. In 2002, Eric established Radio-Coteau, focusing on the north coast vineyards of western Sonoma County and Anderson Valley. With their benchland locations, well-drained soils, exposure by capricious marine air and fog, these sites host grapes naturally suited to their surrounding elements. This natural selection afforded Eric an opportunity to refine his Old World experiences while working with New World grapes. For more than a decade, he has strived to balance nature’s expression with a delicate, but disciplined human touch in these handcrafted wines.
